A Symphony of the Senses

Like an accomplished conductor, you can conduct a symphony of the senses, and, with your partner, turn it into a grand romance!

The symphony will involve all the senses — and so it’s best to start with food. And the food doesn’t have to be elaborate…it’s the atmosphere that will make the meal so sensuous (yes, even “take-out” will do just fine).

Dinner: set a “formal” table (okay, use what’s at hand, but get rid of papers and other things that can clutter a table).

Attractive place-mats or tablecloth; a small bouquet of flowers (bright colors); lightly scented candles; soft, sexy music (whatever creates a mood for you); and turn off the TV, cell phones, tablets, and anything else that buzzes, beeps or rings.

The meal: prepare as much of meal as you can before you sit down to eat…the fewer interruptions, the better. And keep in mind, eating lightly is more of an invitation to romance and intimacy (no one feels sexy after a big dinner).

The symphony: before you both eat anything, enjoy the meal — the aroma of the food and the candles; the colors of the flowers; the sound of the music; and then the taste of the meal…and to complete the symphony, gently hold your partner’s hand.

When we pay attention to all the senses, we are truly, as the Zen Buddhists say, “in the moment”. And this should be a wonderful moment!

Want to heighten the anticipation? Invite your partner to a dinner; date; time and suggested attire. The less you tell him or her, the more anticipation you’ll create.

Prepare the meal and other items beforehand —— and if you feel “adventurous”, you can also prepare the bedroom…the more that’s arranged before the dinner, the more languidly and intimately the evening will go.
